What’s this? Could it be the most beautiful piece of trash I have ever discreetly tried to pluck from the gutter and carry, so very gently, in the whipping wind, to safety, holding it between just two fingers but shielding it with my whole body, arced against the Soho pedestrians? It has been silently distracting me throughout the day, forcing me to peer over my left shoulder at it often enough that I now have an odd and asymmetrical backache. It’s so fragile. If I do the wrong thing with it, I may destroy it!
